Ever thought of making a watermelon smoothie?

A watermelon smoothie is not one of the first fruits you tend to think of when you hear the word smoothies – it’s usually strawberries or banana, right? Well here we do it all, watermelon too is on the list!

It’s a fantastic summer fruit, you can sit by the poolside with the kids and eat yummy watermelon slices for a snack or enjoy a wonderful watermelon concoction!

Wonderful past times, not to mention the fantastic health benefits that come from eating this delicious fruit – let’s check some of them out!

Health Benefits of Watermelon

A healthy diet consists of an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables. Every fruit and vegetable has its own distinct nutritional value that offers wide health benefits a few of watermelon’s are:

Antioxidants – watermelon are chock full of them! Antioxidants prevent the production of free radicals which are cancer causing substances.

Red – watermelons are red! You’re probably thinking…duh, but there’s a reason for this. Watermelon contains a powerful antioxidant called: lycopene, which gives the watermelon it’s red colorings, but this antioxidant also can help reduce the chances of: heart attacks, and certain types of heart disease.

Water – There’s a reason this fruit is called watermelon…right? Did you know that this yummy fruit is 90% water? That’s right, and its water is rich in electrolytes. So, this type of melon is the perfect option for you if you are trying to rehydrate or keep yourself from getting dehydrated. Great workout food!

Vitamin C – C is crucial to boosting and maintaining a healthy immune system Watermelon contains high levels of vitamin C.

Energy – Why do you feel refreshed after eating a watermelon slice? Because it contains Vitamin B(s) (B1 &B6) – which a helpful in reducing hypertension.

Goji Berries are a great way to pack antioxidants into your smoothie that will give you an extra kick of energy.

Chia Seeds are a great source of fiber. You will probably want to soak them a bit to soften them before adding them to your smoothie.

Maca Powder is an excellent food to add to your smoothie. It’s extremely nutrient-dense packed with vitamins, essential minerals, healthy fats and amino acids. This powder is a real energy kick so much so that you won’t be reaching for your coffee in the mornings.

Melon Smoothie

1 cup watermelon

1 cup cantaloupe or honeydew

1 cup pineapple

1 cup mango

1 cup strawberries

1 tbsp honey

1 cup orange juice

Ice as needed

Directions

Blend in your blender until smooth and enjoy!

Cantaloupe & Watermelon Smoothie

1 ½ cup watermelon

1 cup cantaloupe

½ cup yogurt

¼ cup orange juice

Peachy Melon Smoothie

2 – 3 cups watermelon

1 cup yogurt (commonly used is vanilla)

1 cup strawberries

½ cup peach juice

Ice as needed

Rise and Shine Smoothie

1 – 2 cups watermelon

10 raspberries

1 cup juice (commonly used is apple juice)

Squeeze ½ fresh lemons

Ice as needed

Watermelon Banana Smoothie

2 cups watermelon

1 banana

1 cup yogurt

A splash of cranberry juice

Ice as needed
